PRACTICE HISTORY AND ETHOS

Bird Architecture offers a full architectural design service across a range of project typologies, specializing in sustainable design and construction.

The practice is most experienced in working in the domestic sector, having worked in association with various practices on an extensive range of projects from extremely affordable low budget refurbishments to much larger whole house refurbishments and new builds.   At former practices I have been Project Architect at a number of small-medium sized residential mixed used projects, and relish the opportunity to work within a larger team.  The practice has done a considerable amount of work in the architectural conservation sector.

Indeed, the latter is a field the firm is passionate about, because it is  central in the most significant challenge we face in the industry. I am referring to the efficient and considerate refurbishment of our existing housing stock and heritage assets in projects that simultaneously respect conservation in both iterations of the word: respecting both the  important material conservation and heritage, but also environmental conservation and sustainability.

Relating to the above, the importance of (actually) affordable eco-retrofits that are correctly designed, detailed and built  must be seen as being  paramount in the construction industries’ working towards a sustainable future.

An excellent appreciation of the importance of sustainability is ingrained into everything the practice does and is involved in.
